Top Beauty and Health Trends That Aren’t Healthy

Throughout human history, men and women have often gone to extreme lengths to make themselves look beautiful. They have taken this approach even when it comes at the cost of their health.

Even though we have advanced over the centuries in many ways, the quest to look and feel beautiful still comes with health consequences for many people.

These are the top beauty and health trends that aren’t healthy and should be avoided whenever possible.

What Are the Worst Beauty and Health Trends?

1. Going to a tanning salon.

If you receive a spray tan, you have a healthy way to achieve the look you want to have. Indoor tanning underneath sun lamps is remarkably dangerous. This equipment’s UV radiation can lead to premature aging, eye damage, skin burns, and even cancer. What makes this trend problematic is that some people can become addicted to it.

2. Getting a weave or a braid.

Although the occasional weave or braid can help you achieve a specific look successfully, wearing this look frequently can lead to permanent hair loss. It’s a condition called central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia.

When you develop this condition, the hair loss starts at the top of your head, eventually spreading to the rest of the scalp.

3. Getting lots of tattoos.

Tattoos have become a way to express yourself in today’s society. Numerous studies also suggest that it comes with a higher risk of developing hepatitis C. This virus attacks your liver, causing inflammation that can lead to permanent scarring or cirrhosis. It is also known to organ liver failure or cause cancer development.

People with tattoos are also more prone to skin infections. Specific colors, such as blue, yellow, green, and red, are known to produce allergic reactions in some people.

4. Receiving a Botox injection.

Some people get Botox injections because their doctor recommends it for migraine treatment. This beauty and health trend was approved for cosmetic use in 2009, but it comes with a warning that the Botulism toxin can spread to other parts of the body. When this issue occurs, it can lead to problems with swallowing or breathing that can be life-threatening.

5. Using creams to bleach the skin.

The FDA warns people that creams designed to lighten the skin often contain high levels of mercury. This dangerous ingredient gets used because it naturally blocks melanin production, which is responsible for skin pigment development. Although American products must comply with local laws, soaps, lotions, and other products manufactured globally don’t always follow the same rules.

6. Using chemicals to straighten her.

Some hair-straightening products contain several chemicals, including formaldehyde, that can irritate your air passageways. Ongoing exposure to it can trigger asthma-like symptoms, skin rashes, and itching.

We all want to look our best every day because having confidence in our reflection lets us transfer that feeling to everything we do. Instead of following these potentially dangerous trends, why not be a trailblazer and try something new?
